There are a lot of clothing brands popping up, most have similar items on offer with different logo's and colours.
So where does RESP fit in? Well RESP was designed out of frustration that there was nothing on the market the truly allowed the body to breathe through layers, to help stop getting to hot an sweaty outdoors.
Each garment has been designed inhouse by our founder Carlene, so no other brand will have anything like what we offer. Not only did Carlene create a breathable layering concept using clever design and technical fabrics, each piece is smart and comfortable to wear what ever the activity.
Once each design has been finalised, Carlene then sources each fabric for quality, durability and technical spec. We worked directly with the mill to decide on anti-bacterial treatments and sign off dye swatches.
Then it's onto the factory, where were review a number of samples from them for quality and fit, until the samples match our technical designs and give the go ahead for bulk order.
With any addition or accessory to the brand; bottles, hats and beanie, we strive for the same quality and performance. Every item we sell is one we truly wear or use ourselves.
At RESP we are always trying to remain competitive against the market, but producing bespoke garments and using two different fabrics per style can expensive especially on a small scale. This is why you will only see 2 colours per garment batch, although we only run small batches these are often bigger than other brands who buy ready made items from factories and add their logo, so it can sometimes take a while longer to add in now styles.
We care about our customers and about transparency, so we will always do our best to share the journey of our brand and what we want to achieve for our customers. The feedback on our social pages and website speaks volumes about why our brand sticks out from the rest, and why we will grow steady yet last longer.
As we grow into other activities our style will evolve and change to ensure we adapt and remain versatile.
]]>It's only natural for a clothing company to add accessories into their brand, but why did RESP choose bottles and hats?
Well first came the Hydration Bottle, this is a key part of the brands concept to keep you at your best whatever the activity. In order to keep the body temperature regulated we need breathability first and foremost, but secondly we need to keep hydrated. Did you know that 2% of fluid lost in our bodies equates to 30% reduction in performance, whether it be a hot summers day or a chilly winter morning our bottles cover both hot and cold drinks
Our Hydration Bottles are stainless steel, double walled for maximum insulation, this means it will insulate the original temperature of the drink for hours afterwards. Keeping hot drinks HOT for 6 hours and cold drinks COLD for 12 hours. They also come with 2 lids to accommodate your desired choice of drink.
Then introduced the RESP Caps, which are luxurious cotton holding a lovely sheen to its finish. The logo on the front is embossed to give that extra performance feel, and the fixed hard peak keeps you protected from the weather, the hard rain or the bright sunshine.
Finally we've added our Merino Beanies, oh my these are my favourite! So I went for 50% merino and 50% acrylic for durability and ease of care, washing merino can be a tricky business and the last thing you want is to shrink your new beanie hat. Merino has always been a fabric i've wanted to bring into the range, as it has natural antibacterial properties to stop sweat and dirt bacteria's clinging to it keeping it fresher for longer.
Did you know that we lose 7-10% of our heat through our head, so in bad weather it's key to have a cozy hat to keep us warm, our Merino Beanies are breathable so like our clothing if you get too hot excess heat can still escape. The caps will protect from harsh wet weather as well as excess heat from the sun, which may cause heat stroke.
So as you can see each item we bring into the range has a purpose to keep you comfortable for longer, functional well thought out outdoor wear.
Enjoy Cx
Ideas from frustrations commenced in 2015, registered limited business in 2016 and launched in 2019. 2021 has been our best year so far in sales and new customers enjoying RESP's products, 2020 was a bit of a write off due to the obvious with Covid restrictions.
We now have several stockists including Country Equestrian Store in Poundon, Tigga's Saddlery online and tradestands, and Equine Lane online store.
With new products coming through it's about time I got these blogs up to date, so a quick recap on our achievements and goals before I start running through products.
RESP has been designed to keep you cool and comfortable, whatever the activity whatever the weather. I was so frustrated buying thin base layers for under a jumper and softshell, and still getting hot and sweaty. It appear no brand had really thought about how to regulate the body temperature at rest and exercise. So I started work on RESP sourcing fabrics and creating a layering design that will keep you warm yet cool, i've achieved this by zoning the bodies hot spots with different fabrics, fabrics specifically chosen for each layer bottom, middle and top.
All fabrics have been hand selected for quality and durability, and all samples have been designed and thoroughly tested by me to ensure all fit requirements are as best as they can be. However getting customer feedback is key so we can continue to improve and create products you want and benefit from.
Our goal is to create clothing that is long lasting and practical, clothing you can put on and enjoy your activity, whether it be horse riding, mountain biking, hiking or even golf.
The Collection so far.
Clothing is designed with a relaxed fit to be true to UK sizing, we only say to size up on coats to allow room for layers underneath. All hats are one size and unisex, so everyone can enjoy.
There are lots of designs waiting to come into the collection, and the next being the male range.

]]>Delapre Coat - What's different from other coats out there?
There is a lot of clever marketing and design available for equestrian / outdoor wear, and it's getting more and more difficult to find items that actually works.
Feedback on struggles from riders vary from 'zips scratching saddles' to 'sealed like a bin bag'. Do you like soft shell materials or puffa jacket types? Is technical or fashion more important to you?
At RESP we have looked at technical and fashion for all of our clothes, the Delapre Coat has a number of design features to make it feel effortless to wear;
It took us 5 years to find the right fabrics for this coat, testing many in sample garments through a range of activities. The softshell chosen has a specific weave that it is breathable but water resistant, we use the wording resistant as you can't achieve breathable and waterproof in one fabric construction. The coat withstands heavy showers whether on the yard, in the field or out hacking, so do not be concerned by its performance in that respect, we just don't advise to stand out in the rain all day.
The side panels have a higher level of ventilation ability, situated in areas where a bigger build up of heat will occur. Alongside this vent point is the chest and back vent panels, these panels again allow excess heat to travel away from the body but with an overlap to avoid wet, wind or chills travelling back through.
When riding, mucking out, poo picking, grooming, dog walking, shooting, walking, running etc, the last thing you want to think about is your clothes. RESP is designed to enable more from your performance with the clothing and hydration range.
Why choose RESP Active for your performance riding wear?
Regulating our body temperature during outdoor exercise can be tricky, with many of us layering up incorrectly restricting our bodies from breathing.
Wearing a simple dry wick base layer will wick away moisture and may allow heat to transfer, but this all becomes redundant if you add a generic fleece jumper and/or a sealed coat.
A thick fleece jumper will generate additional heat, causing the body to react by sweating as a way of regulating the temperature. If you then add a sealed coat, it traps all of the heat and moisture present. When your level of exercise drops, the heat will disperse but the moisture will remain, creating a damp cold environment around your body.
The same environment can occur if you have too many layers, tight layers or big bulky items. Help your body breath by allowing space for the heat to move, add ventilation for the heat to travel away from the body, and ensure a cold draft can not travel back through.
I'm sure we have all been in this situation and are fed up of feeling sweaty, smelly and uncomfortable. So make a smart change and treat your riding like the sport that it is, and change to riding wear that actually works.
The Acti-Vent layering technology used in the RESP designs allows excess heat generated with exercise, to travel through the layers away from the body, enabling the body's natural respiration process hence the name RESP. Each hot spot on the body has a ventilation panel, and each fabric used on the main body or vent points has been carefully selected. The fabrics enable heat to transfer out but reflect a cold air travelling back towards the body, also all fabrics have an anti-bacterial treatment, which prevents the body's natural bacteria soaking into the fabric. This stops the build up of odours and stains after washing, making your garment fresh and back in it's original state.
Alongside all of the technology is smart, flattering, effective design, well thought out by riders for riders. So why not chose smart and chose RESP.
